All Saints’ Day

All Saints’ Day (Latin festum omnium sanctorum) - Roman Catholic feast celebrated on
November 1th in honor of all the known and unknown saints. All Saints is largely attributable
to the veneration of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the faith in Christ, and not
mentioned or local martyrdoms or in the canon of the Mass.

The first day of November in Poland is day off from work, which means that many people are
traveling great distances, even to visit the graves of their loved ones. People visit cemeteries
to decorate the graves with flowers, light candles and pray for the intention of their dead. This
festival is a religious, mainly Catholic, but a good habit, it also celebrates the many people of
other faiths, or do not adhere to any religion. It is an expression of remembrance and to honor
and respect the dead.

The day after All Saints’Day is All Souls' Day (November 2th) celebrated the day of
remembrance of the dead (in Poland called ‘Zaduszki’). For Catholics, it is a day of prayer
for all believers in Christ who have already left this world. The memory of the dead is also
more secular expression. People organize concerts, exhibitions and performances dedicated to
deceased artists seem commemorative magazines and books.
